Nothing really fancy going up down here... Finally warmer weather, a relaxing weekend and still struggling to cope with work.

At the end of last week, we had a heatwave and the temperature rose up to 42 degrees (I think my personal high) and it was quite okay for me. For sure it was worse for older people who don’t tolerate high temperatures so well, but honestly, I would take 40 and heat over cold and rain (and by cold I mean 12 degrees). I know it’s not nearly as cold as in Finland, but for summer I honestly expected higher temperatures and not feeling cold (like I do now many times, especially in the evenings and mornings). For example when its summer in Slovenia, you can stay up late with just a long-sleeved shirt – I feel like I always need a jacket in Melbourne.

During the heatwave, we went to see some penguins. They normally come out of the sea (for the night) in st. Kilda and you can easily spot them. I saw plenty, but there were so many people at the pier, we weren’t there such a long time. The penguins that live there are so small and you are not allowed to take any white light pictures (aka flash).

The plan was to go surfing during the weekend but that didn’t happen due to the bad weather. So I met with some friends for brunch instead and we spontaneously decided to go clubbing that evening. A lot of drinks and dancing, and a really bad hangover the next day – I really am getting old.

Sunday was chill also – we did bbq, ate way too many snacks and headed to the park with Crystal (aka the dog). Spotted wild kangaroos on the way and it was pretty impressive how fast can they move.

On Mondays, I work at the Heart and Diabetes centres right in the city centre and I think I enjoy it the most there (even though I have to get up at 5:30 to arrive on time). Clients are quite independent and they only need your guidance and tips. However, the gym doesn’t have any windows so you quickly lose track of time.

Also I have been feeling like I am finally getting comfortable in the new work. I have started taking blood pressure regularly and making SOAP notes – it’s not much but it’s a start. I also already have some of my “own” group clients and it gets easier because you tend to see the same people every week.

On Thursday I wanted to go on another bike trip to the city centre but when I was ready for departure I realized my tyre was flat for no reason. It was working completely fine on Wednesday – that was the day when I woke up like I was driven over by a truck, so didn’t feel rested at all. Soon after I cycled up the biggest hill for 3km to buy the bike light (so I wouldn’t have to bike during the night again). When I parked in front of the store, all puffed and my HR probably going over 170, I realized I forgot my wallet at home. So I had no money or credit card to buy bike lights. I headed back and decided I will go to the city centre with a tram. It was so windy at the beach, volleyball wasn’t really the brightest idea.

So yea, on Thursday I woke up ready to seize the day and realized tyre was flat. So had to walk 1,5 km (up another hill) and push my bike besides to get it fixed. When that was done I could finally ride to the city centre to meet up with a friend in the park - and then get back.. In total almost 3 hours of biking plus I went to the gym that morning. So I was so done on Friday and so fatigued I couldnt wait to finish work, but of course exactly on Friday we had to work overhours.

Honestly, I dont like adulting at all... Can I go back to being a student and not be responsible? Like taking a break anytime I want or sleeping in?

What have I learned?

Adulting is hard! I dont like it
