Summer, I am on my way...

I am not really a writer or that kind of a person who would want to share everything with everyone.. But since many of you have been asking what have I been up to while in Australia, I thought it would be nice to share some stories – because there's only so much you can write under Instagram pictures :) Also, it is a nice way of keeping the memories - that is if I even manage to upload more posts. We will see, failing beats not trying anytime.

So, after leaving Finland (after a pretty epic party cruise night, where of course I was stupid enough to get an injury) to visit home for Christmas and holidays, it was soon time to pack for upcoming months of summer. Everyone kept asking me if I was excited, but truth to be told I haven't actually realized I was leaving – after all, I have only been home for 2 weeks. Packing straight after NY's eve wasn't one of my favourite tasks but I didn't have too much time to stress about it. Several hours and 2 suitcases later I was ready to fly to the other end of the world.

In general, I don't like travelling and if it were up to me I would teleport straight to the desired destination; since that isn't possible (yet) I spent around 18 hours on an aeroplane with 4-hour layover in Doha. The only nice thing about travelling long distance are more comfortable seats and screens at the back of every seat. I spent most of my time watching movies or Veronica Mars season 4 (oh, high school memories).

Also, already during travelling, I realized how different Australian culture is from Finnish. One guy randomly talked to me at the airport and another woman joined our small talk – this couldn't be more different than Finland honestly. It will for sure take me some days/weeks/months before getting used to this. Anyway, a day and a half later I landed in Melbourne and finally took a breath of fresh summer air.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't really that much excited about Australia as you might think. In reality, I was holding on to the fact that I'm gonna miss one of the most wonderful months in Finland (January with lots of snow) and thinking that I will actually have to work quite a lot didn't help at all. Not to mention missing my friends and missing out on movie nights... But as soon as I arrived here, I had some gin and tonic in my new home and (almost) everything was forgotten. It took me a while to get comfortable since I was jet-lagged a lot! The first night I slept for 17 hours, the second night I wake up at 4 am and couldn't go back to sleep and third day (6.1) I was already flying somewhere else... No time to really adapt to the new time-zone but after some days I finally got my normal sleeping pattern back
What have I learned?
That plane food really does suck (pack snacks people!)
Melbourne can get cold during summer! (and by cold I mean 12 degrees – this is not the summer I signed up for! )
Talking to strangers is normal
