Is it a quarter of a century already?

I have always been envious of those born in warmer months. You have so many opportunities – doing a bbq, going to the beach, chilling by the pool, or just enjoying the sunshine with some drinks. On the other side, I always had limited choices. Staying inside or... well, staying inside. If I was lucky we got some snow, but more often than not that didn't happen.

When I first visited Australia 15 years ago (damn, time flys by so fast) I remember being so stoaked for my first summer birthday. I still know exactly the dress I wore and what kind of cake I had when I blew 10 candles with such pride and excitement. Afterwards, dip in the pool was necessary, also dancing to the most typical Slovenian songs (»ferari polka« was a huge hit at that time – haha).

This year, I haven't planned anything. Basically, for the most part of the day, we were travelling back from the Gold Coast. That was the end of our vacation week and it started raining up north, so travelling back to Melbourne wasn't so bad after all (it was still sad to leave those infinite sandy beaches)… I spent most of the morning on the plane and travelling back home and we arrived just after lunchtime. So, not the most exciting thing to do when you turn a quarter of the century. Luckily we didn't have any delays that day so our we spend only about 4 hours on the airport/plane.

My birthday age actually hit me when my friend sent me a text saying "congratulations, now you are halfway to your 50's (»zdej si na pol poti do abrahama«)"… am I really there already? I remember being a teenager and feeling so proud whenever someone would say I look older than I really am... Well nowadays, it's the other way around. So when my aunt told me I look more like 18 than 25 I felt like the happiest person in the room.

Nothing fancy happened on Sunday. My close family gathered at our house later in the afternoon - we did some bbq, had some »cowboys« and enjoyed warm weather. I tried kangoroo fort the first time (when I was 10 I was so picky with food, I wouldn't eat anything new… expect for chocolate). Now, don't kill me for saying this, but it actually is a pretty good source of lean meat. After dinner my uncle challenged me in billiards – I think I will need to practice in Liikunta’s OT more because I lost big time. But then I had cake and some more cowboys and I forgot about the double loss haha =)

Now, if it were up to me I would much rather spend my day at the beach with a cocktail in my hand or surfing (there is always a good time for surfing). But then again chilling by the pool with gin&tonic wasn't as bad either. It for sure is a hundred times better than January in Europe.

Highlights:

- shopping assistants pack your groceries (it does come really handy - a lot of time in Slovenia I struggle to get everything in my cart because the assistants just pile up your groceries until they almost fall over...)

- bbq and cowboys and cake... and food in general
